Earthquake Response of Systems with Bilinear Hysteresis
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 90, Issue 4
Abstract
A spectral study of the behavior of systems subjected to earthquakes is presented, in which single degree of freedom systems with elasto-plastic and system parameters that varied in this study are: natural period, damping, yield strength, and strength characteristics. The results, presented in graphical and tabular form, permit a comparison of elasto-plastic action with bilinear action. All investigations were conducted with the aid of a digital computer using the accelerograms of two horizontal components obtained from two of the strongest United States earthquakes recorded to date (1964).
