Distribution Patterns and Losses for Furrow Irrigation

Abstract
A power curve fit model has been found to be a good representation of the actual patterns of distribution in a furrow irrigated field. The model allows for calculation of surplus and deficient volumes, as well as the various relevant losses. The model uses Wilke and Smerdon's model to present the irrigation front rate of advance and the integrated form of Kostiakov's equation to describe infiltration characteristics of soil. Recession was assumed negligible. Some results from a series of trials are given.
