Evaluation of Nonuniformity in Irrigation and Yield

Abstract
The organized field experiments and available information show that for some crops the relationship infiltrated depth of water yield, xi-Yi, with all existing methods of irrigation can be approximated by a second-degree polynomial, including the range in which the infiltrated depth of water, xi, is larger than that which produced the maximum yield, xixm. For other crops with xi > xm the yield keeps constant near the maximum. For these two boundary curves the coefficient of nonuniformity, Fnun is defined. It relates linearly on the absolute and relative yield loss due to the nonuniformity distribution of irrigation water. When the relationship xi-Yi is of the types examined, the coefficient of nonuniformity, Fnun, can be used for comparison of different irrigation equipment and machines with respect to nonuniformity. The same coefficient can be used for estimation of the effect of wind velocity on the uniformity in sprinkler irrigation, labor requirements, and energy expenses.
