Shape Factors in Irrigation Water Advance Equation

Abstract

Utilizing empirical advance and infiltration functions, relationships for surface and subsurface storage shape factors have been obtained. The surface and subsurface shape factors as expressed by these relationships have been found to be a function of time as well as a function of infiltration characteristics of soil. Incorporating these relationships, a continuity equation has been written for advance of water in surface irrigation. The equation for advance of water compares well with field data and relationships of other workers.
