Outlet Transitions with Triangular-Shaped Baffles

Publication: Journal of the Irrigation and Drainage Division
Volume 97, Issue 3

Abstract

Laboratory hydraulic studies have been used to determine the proper location for triangular-shaped baffles in open channel expansions having vertical walls. The outlet transition structures that were studied ranged from the abrupt expansion to divergences of 1:1, 2:3, 1:3, and 1:6. The previously developed analysis for submerged flow in flow measuring flumes has been modified to allow the analysis of energy loss in outlet transitions. The design procedure for outlet transitions with triangular-shaped baffles incorporates the modified analysis.
