Abstract
The Illinois State Water Survey is developing a water resource model to examine the alternative solutions to meet the objectives determined by economic, social and political criteria. Developed sub-routines costs are for reservoirs, water transmitting wells, pumps, municipal sewage treatment and water pumping. Costs for reservoirs include land clearing, dam and spillway construction, relocations, engineering services, contingencies, and land. Construction costs for water transmission covers pipe, transportation, installation, valves, and appurtenances. The costs of wells are directly related to depth, and the cost of pumps is directly related to capacity. Pump costs versus capacities are presented for various operating heads. Costs for municipal sewage treatment are expressed in terms of dollars per design population equivalent, except for lagoons. Lagoon costs are in terms of total dollars. Pumping water cost depends on quantity of flow, total pumping head, power, and wire-to-water efficiency.
