Abstract
Standard type irrigation channel structures have been developed by the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission, Victoria, Australia for large numbers of similar structures in the channel construction projects for irrigation areas supplied by the earthen channels. The factors considered in the selection of the structures are analyzed. The type structures used for the check structures, gate controlled offtakes, vertical drops and various pipe structures are described with comments on the hydraulic design approach and field problems. Model test studies have been carried out to consider scour control. Further tests are required to study the effect of high tailwaters on the flow profiles for vertical drops and gated offtakes. Head losses for the different pipe outlets and ratings for the orifice measurement with a submerged and partially submerged flow have also been studied in the model tests.
