Abstract
Design and construction aspects are described for the post-tensioned concrete containment of the 1,130-Mw (PWR) Trojan Nuclear Plant for the Portland General Electric Company, Portland, Oregon. General description and design criteria of the containment are presented. Methods of analysis and computer programs are presented for evaluation of post-tensioning forces on the hemispherical dome due to continuous vertical tendons; for computation of stresses in the concrete shell, reinforcement and liner plate due to axisymmetric and nonaxisymmetric loads using finite element computer programs; and for prediction of stress concentrations around large penetrations for thickened and unthickened openings. Methods of analysis for the tendon anchorage zone stresses are listed along with a brief description of the full scale testing program for the buttress anchorage zone. Also described are structural details and construction aspects of the prestressing system, reinforced concrete foundation, steel liner plate and penetrations. Procedures for strength tests and leakage tests of the completed containment structure are outlined.
