Abstract

Education as an essential part of the preparation of men and women entering the civil engineering profession is presented. A broad range of educational aspects with which ASCE is concerned is given. These include; (1) Characteristics and orientation of educational programs; (2) guidance for potential civil engineers; (3) assistance to students in college level and graduate programs; (4) coordination of primary-secondary-college level and graduate programs education; (5) curriculum content; (6) accreditation; (7) curriculum length; (8) student work-study programs; (9) interdisciplinary collaboration; (10) faculty qualifications; (11) role of research in education; (12) education-practice liaison; and (13) continuing education. It is an important obligation of ASCE to support and cooperate with all those providing education for civil engineering at whatever level.
