Professional Training of Engineers
Publication: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 92, Issue 2
Abstract
Engineering teachers find that they must teach more analysis in order that students, on graduation, may keep pace with modern technical developments and the greater demands made on them. The dangers of exclusive overemphasis of analysis have been considered. The desirable ideal of including in undergraduate courses a great deal of modern analytical techniques, while still teaching engineering attitude to design, appears to be still possible. The alternative is to give a training more like that of a scientist, but graduates with an engineering attitude are known to fit more quickly and usefully into professional life.
