Theoretical Model for Collapse of Shear Webs

Abstract
The ultimate load capacity of shear webs in a plate girder with stiffeners is modelled as the sum of the strengths of the web and the flange. The web is considered to be held in the buckled configuration by a shear stress that varies along the boundaries, while the bending strength of the flanges make an independent contribution. This model of the collapse mechanisms gives a direct prediction of the shear force at collapse without the need for empirically established relationships.
