Abstract
A method is development for calculating the torsional shearing stresses in a square rod which is reinforced by any number of circular reinforcing bars. An example is the concrete cylinder reinforced by steel reinforcing rods. Perfect bonding is assumed to exist between the materials, and the latter are assumed to be isotropic and linearly elastic. Simple bond shear stress distributions are given for the case of four symmetrically-disposed reinforcing rods, and for several values of the ratios of the shearing moduli of the two materials.
