Abstract
The deformation of a porous medium occupied by more than one fluid phase can be described using classical point equations integrated over the porous medium. The resulting system of governing equations are expressed in terms of macroscopic variables that have precise mathematical and physical definitions. It is found that the momentum balance for the entire porous medium contains terms involving surface tension that have heretofore been neglected.
