Abstract
A method for determing the static response of a wire rope with a cross section consisting of wire strands has been developed. The method is an extension of previous work and requires the bending, torsional, and axial stiffnesses of each thin initially curved strand. Expressions are presented for these stiffnesses and a typical plot is shown of the axial strain of a wire rope as a function of the axial load for various end twisting moments.
