Fundamental Frequency of Shear Flexible Buildings
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 100, Issue 5
Abstract
This technical note presents an analytical lower bound for the fundamental frequency of certain shear flexible structures. The lower bound is shown to be as accurate as the upper bound of Rayleigh's method. Upon achieving familiarity with the presented method, it may be extended to structures with more than one step change in column stiffness. The approximate lower bound also may be used as a check of the natural frequencies from a computer program
