Motion-Reducing Device under Seismic Excitation

Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 98, Issue 1

Abstract

It is well known that the vibration level of a synchronous machine or device subjected to a steady state sinusoidal excitation can be reduced by the attachment of an undamped vibration absorber. In the present study, a nonstationary stochastic process is used as the excitation. The results indicate that in a statistical sense, the absorber system may be considerably more effective than was suggested by previous studies.
