On the Accuracy of Some Dynamic Shell Theories
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 93, Issue 5
Abstract
The error in the frequency and mode shape obtained on the basis of the Flügge bending theory and a Donnell-type dynamic theory for circular cylindrical shells, is established as a function of the shell parameters for modes having a small number of circumferential waves. Moreover, the effect on the frequency of the axial and tangential inertia is evaluated. Simple but accurate expressions for the frequency of the first mode are presented and discussed.
