Dynamic Stability of a Shallow Cylindrical Shells
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 93, Issue 3
Abstract
The dynamic snap-through of a shallow cylindrical shell under impulsive loading is investigated. The nonlinear equations of motion are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations in time by expanding the displacements in a series of the linear vibrational mode shapes. Both symmetrical and unsymmetrical snap-through is studied. It is shown that the parametrically excited, asymmetric mode may produce unsymmetrical snap-through an initial velocities considerably below those for symmetric snap-through.
