Abstract

Two methods are presented for predicting face-wrinkling failure stresses for edgewise loaded sandwich panels. One method, based on Forest Products Laboratory theoretical parameters, is for the specialized case of fiberglas-facing, aluminum-honeycomb-core. The second method, based on a theory developed by Yusuff, is more general in that it appears applicable to all types of sandwiches. An essential contribution of this study is the formulation of a method for estimating initial waviness. Extensive experimental data was used and reasonable correlations with theory were obtained.
