Yielding at Varying Load Rates
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 88, Issue 3
Abstract
Yield strength of several aluminum alloys were determined experimentally under rates of stress application ranging from 4×105 psi/sec to 19×106 psi/sec; at room temperature (290 K), explosive, impact testing apparatus was constructed specifically for this purpose; yield strengths predicted by theory are found to be in good agreement with experimental values, indicating that dislocation theory provides accurate means of predicting yield strength.
