Abstract
Techniques used for study of stability in homogeneous flow are cited and applied to problems with density stratification; results are restricted to instabilities of large wavelength; effect of small density stratification in modifying different types of instability of parallel flows of shear-layer and jet types is considered, and simple approximate formulas for long-wave stability characteristics are given.
