Factors Considered In Urban Transportation Planning
Publication: Journal of the Highway Division
Volume 91, Issue 2
Abstract
Urban transportation planning is a process in design of a transportation system, using chiefly a team of specialists in applied arts and sciences. Findings of research by specialists in pure arts and sciences may provide important contributions to the process but are not the chief goal. These distinctions can assist in defining which professions should deal with each factor involved in urban transportation planning. Commonly accepted factors considered in the process are summarized with reference to professional disciplines required. It is suggested that defining the role of each profession is currently (1965) a greater problem than defining the factors involved.
