Abstract
Study of effect of various thicknesses of open-graded sand and gravel subbases upon strength of composite pavement structure, subjecting slabs 8 in. by 12 ft by 18 ft joined by 1 in. round dowels to static loads; measurement of deflections; strains, and pressures, when slab was flat and when it was curled upward at corners and edges; subbases were more effective in reducing free corner and edge deflections, than in reducing strains.
