Abstract
A time series model of total suspended particulates for Chicago between 1964 and 1978 is derived from monthly data on particulates and enactment data of pollution control laws. The model estimated provides a means of testing the effectiveness of pollution control laws and also of predicting the results of easing such laws. Statistical analysis of the derived model indicates that existing laws have lowered and equilibrated particulate matter and points to as yet unknown periodic particulate sources as possible foci of future control laws.
