Abstract
The ideal mixing pattern in an equalization basin lies between a completely mixed and a plug flow system, which is dependent on the frequency of the incoming waste stream and the detention time in the equalization basin. If the mixing pattern were properly designed, a large equalization basin with a detention time much greater that one process cycle would seem to be redundant, and this would yield amplitude ratio close to zero which neglects the capability of the subsequent processes to handle shock loads.
