Abstract
Like carbon adsorption, biosorption has been extensively used to remove organics other pollutants from wastewater. A well-known example is activated sludge process where organics in indicated by BOD could be removed by more than 90%. In a previous study, it was shown that uranium in concentrations up to 1,000 ppm was not only nontoxic to Penicillium culture C-1, but also could be taken up by the mycelia in an amount as high as 17 mg/100 mg of mycelial dry weight. An Analysis is made to the process for uranium sorption by the mycelia of Penicillium C-1.
