Abstract
The experiences and practices concerning construction-related insurance were the focus of a nationwide survey conducted with utility contractors. The survey obtained information related to: contract requirements for insurance, general liability coverage, workmen's compensation insurance, particular services provided by insurance companies, and specific practices of contracting firms relating to insurance matters. The results show specific differences of the practices of contractors depending on whether the owner is public or private. Additional differences were noted in the practices of firms in differing sizes. In general, the different practices of contractors appear to reflect differences in business philosophy or in the in-house capability of company personnel.
