First Five Years of the Critical-Path Method
Publication: Journal of the Construction Division
Volume 90, Issue 1
Abstract
From observations of the users and project uses of the critical-path method during its first five years, it is seen to be not only a management tool but also a new way of thinking about and approaching a project. The major requirement for the effective realization of the CPM benefits is the education of personnel at all levels within an organization. A trial-and-error method is applied to a sample problem that includes an arrow diagram and resource usage curves based on different availabilities of resources. In this manner, schedules that reflect existing situations and incorporate the best information available are developed.
