Facility Planning for Philadelphia Airport
Publication: Journal of the Aero-Space Transport Division
Volume 93, Issue 1
Abstract
The rapid growth of air travel and cargo, the development of new jet aircraft, and increasing demands for more conveniences have strained facilities at Philadelphia International Airport. As a result, a master plan to alleviate the situation and prepare the airport for future needs has been developed. The result is a 66-aircraft gate terminal, featuring two wing buildings each with three flight pavilions accommodating up to 11 gates, designed for 1980 requirements. Multi-deck automobile parking for 12,000 cars is located over and adjacent to the wing buildings, served by a two-level roadway system with direct access to major expressways. Passengers have a short walk through protected connecting links to flight pavilions. A Cargo City is also planned to accommodate coming jumbo freight aircraft and new buildings required for automated cargo processing.
