Abstract
A member of the Metropolitan Section questions the validity of the Engineer/Scientists Demand Index, as provided by Deutsch, Shea & Evans. The problems of reduced salary benefits, lack of benefits for employees, later vesting of pensions—all indicate the lack of interest in improving the prestige and professionalism of civil engineers, as the mentioned benefits show for people outside of the profession the highly vaunted professionalism of civil engineers. Examples are given of the procedures used by members of law firms in improving the prestige and professionalism of lawyers—improving their salaries and benefits.
