The Civil Engineer in Appointed Public Positions
Publication: Engineering Issues: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 99, Issue 3
Abstract
This participation is of benefit to the civil engineering profession or the engineering profession in general by just standing up and being counted. Too often the engineer is characterized as a kind of technician who solves problems while having little or no social concern, thus producing other problems. That this characterization is largely untrue does not lessen the fact that it is widely accepted and damaging to our profession. By participating in the kinds of activities related here, while being identified as a civil engineer, we show a concern for solving our problems and become better equipped to perform in our chosen field of endeavor.
