The Challenge of Environmental Protection
Publication: Engineering Issues: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 99, Issue 2
Abstract
Words cannot begin to compare with nor do justice to the past deeds accomplished by ASCE members. Any predictions on future developments will fall far short of actual happenings to be. It is necessary to salute the past, acknowledge the present, and work for a future that will be better than both. The plea is for engineers to get involved in political processes and public decisions. Increased participation by the engineer in public policy making is essential to avoid mistakes which will be costly in money, resources, and public confidence. Here's a place for the youngest member to contribute as well as those who have many years of practice behind them. The civil engineer has a special responsibility to work for policies and action which will conserve our resources and protect our environment.
