Clear Communication—Key to Profession Development

Abstract
The civil engineer today who can express himself effectively on the job is worth $7,500 more a year to his employer and to himself—not to mention to the job and the public. With modern technological tools to apply advanced theory, and with today's new materials and methods, there is little a civil engineer cannot accomplish, if he is able to convey his ideas to others so they mean the same thing on the receiving end. Universities and institutes teach basic sciences, computer technology, and engineering applications, but precious few teach any courses on how to express ideas or to communicate.
