Guidelines for Engaging in Public Affairs Activities

Professional involvement by society members is necessary in local, state, national, and international matters. The need for such activities is briefly reviewed and the role of the Committee on Public Affairs is presented. The paper presents outstanding activity areas in which local units of the society can be constructively involved on a continuing basis. A brief description is presented outlining assistance available from ASCE headquarters and through the Committee on Public Affairs. A flow chart is included in diagrammatic form indicating the broad scope of activities in Public Affairs, and finally, an appendix of policies and factual accounts of public affairs involvement is presented.
