Limit Plasticity Approach to Slope Stability Problems

Abstract
In slope stability analysis, various limit equilibrium methods are applied, e.g., Fellenius method (4), Bishop's method (1), Janbu's method (6), Kenney's method (8), the Morgenstern-Price method (II), Ma dej's method (10), and others. All these methods are generally called “methods of slices.” The safety factor is obtained from the conditions of a global equilibrium of forces ac ting on the vertical rigid slices (see Fig. 1).
