Abstract
Torsional vibrations are of common occurrence in foundations of structures subjected to eccentric loading in a horizontal plane. Foundations of radar and communication antennae and certain reciprocating machinery are some examples. Torsional vibrations are commonly excited in buildings during earthquake shaking. In practice the foundations for these structures are invariably either partially or fully embedded.
