Methane Migration Around Sanitary Landfills
Publication: Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division
Volume 105, Issue 2
Abstract
The decomposition of refuse in sanitary landfills results in the generation of methane gas (7, 8, 9, ll, l4, 17). Because methane forms an explosive mixture with air at between 5% and 15% methane, there is a growing concern for explosion hazards in constructed facilities located near landfills (5).
