Repeated Load Triaxial Tests on a Dolomite Ballast
Publication: Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division
Volume 104, Issue 7
Abstract
Conventional ballasted track is a comparatively loose assembly of rails, fastenings, ties, and ballast designed to transmit the repetitive forces from a moving vehicle to the underlying road bed. It depends for its vertical and lateral alinement upon the ability of each of the components including the ballast to sustain the repeated applications of contact stress due to the passage of each wheel.
