Abstract
Several workers have investigated the diffusion of water in soil under a temperature gradient above the freezing point. However, only limited studies seem to have been carried out under subfreezing temperature, even though the phenomenon is of importance in the underground storage of cryogenic fluids, buried pipelines in permafrost regions, and in the preservation of food and body organs.
