Passive Resistance of Inclined Anchors in Sand

Publication: Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division
Volume 101, Issue 3

Abstract

Several studies have been conducted to determine the ultimate passive resistance of shallow anchors subjected to horizontal pull and it.s associated failure mechanism. Hueckel conducted several laboratory model tests on anchors embedded in sand at shallow depth to study qualitatively the effects of anchor plate inclination on the ultimate passive resistance. The model anchor used in Hueckel.s study was a square plate, and the test results indicated a considerable decrease of ultimate resistance with an increase in anchor inclination.
