Abstract
The methods available for membrane penetration calibration and some anomalies in these methods are examined. A modified method to correctly determine the rubber membrane is presented along with the analysis of test results. Based on analysis and test results, in membrane penetration calibration tests using dummy rods, the writers' suggestion of the use of an annular flexible top platen leads to more reliable results and should be preferred to the use of conventional rigid top platen.
