Erratum for “Response of Laterally Loaded Rectangular and Circular Piles in Soils with Properties Varying with Depth” by Yoon Seok Choi, Dipanjan Basu, Rodrigo Salgado, and Monica Prezzi

In the section “Parametric Study,” the definition for the dimensionless pile-head deflection caused by the applied moment $M_a$ for the soil profiles in which $G_s^{\ast }$ increases linearly with depth was incorrectly presented as $w_{N\text{,}M}={w|}_{z=0}{\left(B^{\ast }\right)}^3{M}_l/M_a$. It should have been presented as $w_{N\text{,}M}={w|}_{z=0}{\left(B^{\ast }\right)}^3{m}_l/M_a$.

Later, in the same section, the first two sentences describing Fig. 6(a) were imprecisely typeset. They should read “Fig. 6(a) shows the ratio $w_{2\text{-layer}}/w_{\text{homog.}}$ of the pile-head deflection in a two-layer profile and a homogenous soil profile as a function of $h/L_p$ for circular and square piles. The pile-head deflection in homogenous soil $w_{\text{homog.}}$ is computed using $G_{s2}^{\ast }$ for the entire soil deposit.”

The constant $b$ in Table 1 when $\tilde{k}>{\tilde{t}}^2$ should be $\sqrt{\left[\left(1/2\right)\left(\sqrt{\tilde{k}-\tilde{t}}\right)\right]}$. The corrected table is presented here.
