We welcome Dr. Sinem Korkmaz of Michigan State University to the Editorial Board of this journal. She will serve as assistant specialty editor in organizational issues. We also wish to thank Dr. Christine Fiori of Virginia Tech for her service to the Editorial Board as assistant specialty editor in organizational issues since July 2006.
Dr. Sinem Korkmaz is an assistant professor in the Construction Management program at the School of Planning, Design, and Construction at Michigan State University (MSU). She is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)–accredited professional and received her Ph.D. from Penn State, Architectural Engineering Department, with a dissertation on high-performance green building delivery. During her Ph.D. education at Penn State, she worked as the design documents coordinator and building information modeling professional in the design-build team of a sustainable early childhood learning center in Lame Deer, Montana; helped with construction coordination; and participated in volunteer-based construction projects of sustainable buildings in Montana for the American Indian Housing Initiative (AIHI) program. Building on her background, her current research focuses on delivery processes and integrated teams to produce sustainable, high-performance buildings.
The Construction Management program at MSU has provided national leadership in this area since 1948, with a curriculum that has matured over the years into one of the best available. Under this program, accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), the students are given a world-class opportunity to learn about the management aspects of construction. At the graduate level, the program offers both master’s and doctoral degrees in construction management. This program is a part of the School of Planning Design and Construction (SPDC) at MSU. The vision of SPDC is to lead the integration of planning, design, and construction to create a sustainable built and natural environment that enriches communities, as well as economic and family life, through leadership, entrepreneurial creativity, social responsibility, cultural relevance, and environmentally sustainable planning and policy.
