Analytical Life-Prediction Model for RC Beams Strengthened with Externally Bonded FRP Laminates under Flexural Fatigue Loading

Abstract
This study aimed at developing a simple procedure to predict the fatigue life of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with externally bonded fiber reinforced polymers (EBFRP). The study tested classical beam theory against 68 data points collected from the literature to validate its use. The calculated stresses showed good agreement with the data reported in the literature, despite the fact that stiffness degradation was neglected in the calculated stresses. This work introduced a new stress versus number of cycles to failure () model, which was developed by regression analysis between analytically calculated steel stresses and the reported fatigue life of the beams, in order to ensure the compatibility of the model. A modified model with a mean safety factor of 3.9 was introduced to be utilized for design purposes.
