Editor’s Note

Publication: Leadership and Management in Engineering
Volume 9, Issue 1
One of our contributors to the special October issue of Leadership and Management in Engineering, Peter Engelmann, passed away on August 22, 2008. Mr. Engelmann had a long, rich, and complex career as a civil engineer, spanning many decades. He was an immigrant to the United States, having fled Germany during World War II and first settling in Turkey. Mr. Engelmann worked for the firm of Parsons Brinckerhoff in New York for many years, and he had a master’s degree in civil engineering from MIT.
Mr. Engelmann contributed an article about infrastructure and international issues to our journal. The concerns that prompted Mr. Engelmann to write this article developed over his long, interesting career working with international issues and the World Bank. As his article was being prepared, he was unfortunately struck by serious illness. We learned from his family that writing the article and anticipating its publication provided him some comfort during a difficult period. We are grateful to Mr. Engelmann and his family for his contribution to the issue.
