Calibration of Flow and Transport Model with a Bench-Scale Prefabricated Vertical Drain Remediation System

Publication: Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering
Volume 129, Issue 1

Abstract

Two experiments were undertaken to study the effectiveness of a remediation system that utilizes prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs). The results of these experiments were evaluated using a Bayesian decision framework. The numerical model used in this research was calibrated to the measured results and the discrepancy between the two was quantified. In addition, the reduction in uncertainty in the model parameters obtained by performing the experiments was also quantified. These model parameters may be used with the Bayesian method described in the paper, or with other decision methods, to design PVD remediation systems.
