International Bridge Conference, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania—2008

I have had the privilege of attending the International Bridge Conference for the last several years. Hosted annually by the Engineer’s Society of Western Pennsylvania, the 25th International Bridge Conference (IBC) will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania June 2–4, 2008. Most readers will have received the call for papers by now and hopefully will be planning their attendance. In honor of its 25th year, the IBC is focusing on the bridge engineers of the future. A series of “student day” activities is planned aimed at both high school students and university undergraduates. Because of this focus, the IBC is hoping to enhance the exposure of the annual James D. Cooper Student Paper Competition. Thus, a challenge to the readers of JBE: Encourage submissions from graduate and undergraduates at your institution or alma mater! James D. Cooper winners receive a $1000 scholarship, travel and accommodation to the 2008 IBC and the opportunity to publish their work in the Conference Proceedings.
