Certificate Program in Construction Engineering and Management
Publication: Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice
Volume 122, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper describes the graduate certificate program in construction engineering and management offered at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and addresses its special concerns and issues. The certificate program typically has half the credit requirements of a master's degree program. It fills a void in the education of graduate engineers, most of whom are employed at the time. Special criteria and demands to be met are presented in this paper. Overall, there is merit in having a certificate program, and it offers wider opportunities in the education of construction engineers and managers. Good program management is necessary for new educational programs. This paper discusses an experiment with a graduate certificate program now under way at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
