Overload Bore Propagation Due to an Overtopping Wave

Publication: Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering
Volume 112, Issue 1

Abstract

This paper examines the character and dissipation of a bore initially generated from a wave overtopping a berm and subsequently running inland. A simplified relation is developed to provide depth and speed of the bore at any distance inland. This information can be used to establish safe setback and floor elevations for structures built on artificial islands.
