Determining Angular and Linear Distortions on the Map Base

Publication: Journal of Surveying Engineering
Volume 126, Issue 4

Abstract

The effects of dimensional changes on the base materials of maps and plans produced for engineering and cadastral purposes are studied from a different perspective. First, physical specifications of the map base materials and minimum conditions that could cause deformations are discussed. Then equations regarding deformation of the strength of materials are applied to plane deformations on a map base. Analytical and graphical methods are explained and presented together with examples, and conclusions are given.
